Buying Down Alternative Comforters Reviews

Families coping with allergies often wind up buying down alternative comforters for their members. A down alternative comforter may also be less expensive than the real thing.

If you’re exploring which kind of down alternative comforter to buy, they basically fall into three groups. There are the synthetic fiberfill blankets, the natural feather blankets and wool.

Primaloft comforters are actually very similar to real goose-down comforters. First designed by the U. S. Military, Primaloft has the unusual feature of keeping you warm and comfortable even if the blanket gets wet. The military lines its sleeping bags with it, and insulates some of the soldier’s clothing. This blanket feels like down, very soft. But it’s not cheap. It’s very close to what you would pay for a real down blanket.

If you have a down comforter and notice you have become allergic to it, it is possible that dust mites and particles are clinging to it, then traveling up to you, the sleeper. Hypodown says its blanket is virtually mite-free. It is stuffed with a combination of white goose down and milkweed. This blanket promises to trap the mites and hold onto them, keeping them from being inhaled until the comforter is washed.

Wool is used widely around the world as a hypoallergenic blanket. A wool comforter is filled with wool shavings, which naturally keep dust mites away, and it’s fire-resistant as well. Wool is now becoming more popular in the U. S. The wools used to make a comforter are usually llama, alpaca and sheep. Experts say llama and alpaca deliver the softest, lightest comforters, while sheep wool is slightly heavier.

One of the big benefits of a wool comforter is that it won’t lose its shape. Studies show that you can crush, pull or twist wool comforters and they will return to the shape they were in when they were new. A big attraction of a wool comforter is that the wool doesn’t move around and settle into little mountains like a down comforter often does.

If you suffer from allergies but you won’t settle for anything less than pure luxury, you may like a silk comforter. It’s all natural, very strong, and yet very lightweight. It offers the same breathable warming effect that down blankets have. And it’s still made as it was back in China. Silkworms weave the silk fibers, which are then sewn into the materials. Silk comforters are a little less puffy than down. You may have to stretch your budget to buy a silk comforter. But experts say if you use a duvet cover with it, it will last many years.

A hypoallergenic comforter designed by people at the NASA space agency is now making a big hit. The Temprakon comforter regulates a sleeper’s temperature. This comforter draws in excess heat, and then only releases it when the sleeper shows signs of needing it. It is made of Siberian down. And Temprakon fans say it has increased their REM deep sleep cycle, offering them better sleep throughout the night.
